Pokedex Completion

Question

I just noticed this at a very late stage of my gaming. So in order to complete my pokedex I have to catch the same pokemon (Normal, Shiny, Metallic, etc) twice so that I can complete it? Cause I tried to check my pokedex status after I evolved my Shiny Onyx and it didn't show that I've caught a Shiny Onyx, but instead showed me a Shiny Steelix. Is this the case here? Cause that's normally not how it works with pokemon and it makes everything very time consuming and tiresome.

To complete the dex on Vortex you need to own one of each pokemon. For example, having a Charmander and evolving through to Charizard won't count. You need to have a Charmander, Charmeleon and a Charizard. It's time consuming, but that's what makes it fun. ^^
