    Don't use shiny/metallic Pokemon. Read this

  2. billabob's post in Is there any way of encountering ag was marked as the answer
    Yeah it's part of a currently ongoing event. Arceus (Poison) is available in the grass at the following locations:

    Route 3
    Route 4
    Route 10
    Route 11
    Route 13
    Route 16
    Route 17
    Route 19
    Wild Overgrowth

    They'll go away on Sep 18th at 23:59 BST so take advantage of them while you still can.

  4. billabob's post in Are these glitches normal? was marked as the answer
    This gets posted every week. What happened is you didn't press "continue" to finish the previous battle so the game registered you as still being in that battle. When you encountered the Darkrown the game sent you to the battle page which just resumed the previous unfinished encounter.

    It should be fixed or made more clear that you have an unfinished battle while you're hunting, ridiculous that we still get forum posts asking this question every few days
  5. billabob's post in Pokedollars calculation? was marked as the answer
    A random multiplier is applied to the amount of XP you earned:

    0.5x = 500/1000
    1.2x = 300/1000
    1.5x = 150/1000
    2x = 45/1000
    4x = 4/1000
    7.5x = 1/1000

    The average multiplier is 0.9485x
  6. billabob's post in Need help anyone know? was marked as the answer
    You can use Type[x] for each immune type. Like if you want to train a Pidgey you'd use TypeFlying, TypeGhost for ghosts etc.

    There's also training accounts for specific immunes, here are the optimal accounts for all immunes: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1FrsNGHLTh9ZhtIYTDLkX_BfTbMcJlLW3ya49IFpyruc/edit#gid=0
  7. billabob's post in How to check how many avatars exist was marked as the answer
    You can do it in the PV Discord with the !value command. Here's an example.

  8. billabob's post in What is wonder trade was marked as the answer
    It was removed as nobody was using it and it just ended up being filled with junk. It's probably not coming back, given how people have been asking this for years
  9. billabob's post in SIDEQUESTS was marked as the answer
    The basic gist is that you don't want to be switching attacks at all, each Pokemon is reduced to a single move that does neutral damage to instantly knock out the opponent. This trivialises almost every battle in sidequests, CBs and battle tower, reducing them all to ~20 clicks
  10. billabob's post in How to change clan picture? was marked as the answer
    You can't any more sorry, clan forums were removed and the pictures went with them. Maybe in the future.

    No, it means exactly what Patrick already told you before
  13. billabob's post in Didn't get my Zacian Crowned avatar was marked as the answer
    Yeah it's a 1/6 chance when you evolve one. Only certain special Pokemon like Alcremie forms, Froslass/snorlax Mega and Necrozma forms will give out avatars when you evolve them
  14. billabob's post in Pokedex Inquiry was marked as the answer
    It's effectively a living dex, past ownership isn't taken into account at all.
  15. billabob's post in How do i get zeraora? was marked as the answer
    There is no Zeraora event, it's only ever been available in the store: https://forums.pokemon-vortex.com/store/category/1-pokémon/
  16. billabob's post in Help was marked as the answer
    my solution to this was to spam-catch every lvl 17/18 pokemon I saw, my average XP was already very low so I wasn't worried about tanking it, but this easily made me the last 1k points I needed last month in the final day

    As for average XP I think all you can do is do more seasonal battles
  17. billabob's post in Sidequest best mons was marked as the answer
    Since nobody here answered the question you were actually asking and just gave general (+ bad) advice on sidequests - prismatic laser has 160 base power so with STAB from a level 100 dark Necrozma it deals exactly 160/60 * 100 * 1.5 * 1.25 = 500 damage. The only other Pokemon that learn prismatic laser are the other Necro forms (DW, DM, Ultra)

    Eternabeam has 160 base power but only 90% accuracy. Eternatus and Eternatus (Eternamax) can learn it.
    V-create is 180 base power and 95% accuracy, it's incredible. Victini and Dratinire can learn it. It does 562 damage with STAB+dark variant.

    Aside from that you have the OHKO moves: Fissure, Guillotine, Horn Drill and Sheer Cold. Quite a lot of Pokemon can learn those but they're not viable for battling because of their 30% accuracy. I have a slightly outdated list here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1a81K9Zf0HsyS14RnENTdNtIqd-NrK1X4RbBBe0ZDo-c/edit#gid=0

    so yes, a level 63 normal Barboach does more damage than level 100 dark Necrozma
  18. billabob's post in Will Breeding Be Coming? was marked as the answer
    No, it's not going to happen. It would be mostly pointless (you don't need more of Pokemon you already have) and it'd wreck the economy for anything rarer than a Pidgey

    Baby Pokemon are some of the easiest Pokemon to get as it is, they're all common encounters on routes

  20. billabob's post in What is the odds of get shiny eevee was marked as the answer
    About 1/16. If you look at the stats of the most recent rare Pokemon: https://www.pokemon-vortex.com/pokedex/zorua (hisuian)

    At the time of writing there are 1297 Zorua (Hisuian), and 77 of those are shiny which is 1/16.8. Normally you'd expect there to be less normals than variants because people are less likely to bother catching them, but it's a new Pokemon so not many are being skipped. So it's a decent source for estimating the rarity of each variant

    Make sure you have hardware acceleration enabled in your browser settings. This game slows to a crawl for me when it's disabled.
  22. billabob's post in Gameplay mechanics clarifcations was marked as the answer
    What do you mean by this? How are battles separate from wins?
    How did you get this? It's not correct. You also can't get some of these numbers from the seasonal leaderboard such as total Pokemon. And how don't you know which base the logarithm is if you derived this yourself? The real equation is:
    (√t * √u * ln(a) * ln(b)) / 1000
    t = Total EXP
    u = Unique Pokémon
    a = Average EXP
    b = Battle Count
    Testing on the #1 player, BerryBlast, we get (√45,556,334 * √1,644 * ln(27,230) * ln(8,047)) / 1000 = 25133.1255, and indeed he has 25,133 points on the leaderboard.
    I don't know exactly and haven't looked into it very far but my impression is that it's very simple. A Pokeball has almost no chance of catching something with high HP, but under a cutoff point (around 20??) it has a very good chance of catching. Other balls raise this limit when their conditions are reached. If you've ever tried catching a Pokemon with a moon ball with 1 HP, it can easily take 20-30 throws before it catches

    There are no probabilities behind deciding when you encounter a Pokemon, the typical wait between encounters is about 1.1 seconds. If the current Pokemon shown is rare or legendary then it'll hang around for a bit longer so you don't accidentally walk past it.
    As for variants. For common Pokemon, variants are around 1/25 - for legendaries variants are 1/2. For both those pools, the variants are divided into 25% mystic, 25% metallic, 25% dark, 12.5% shadow, 12.5% shiny.

    Rarity is decided before variant.

    If I'm mistaken on anything in this post please feel free to correct me. Recommend reading this thread:

    quick edit - lol oops that's your thread, i see what you're confused by now - here's a formula dump

    Seasonal Points:
    (√t  *  √u * ln(a) * ln(b)) / 1000
    t = Total EXP
    u = Unique Pokémon
    a = Average EXP
    b = Battle Count
    Clan Points:
    ((t) * ln(cb)) / 10000
    t = Total EXP
    cb = Clan Battle Count
    Global / Local Points:
    (√t  *  √u * √a * ln(b)) / 1000
    t = Total EXP
    u = Unique Pokémon
    a = Average EXP
    b = Battle Count
    When you have no dupes, the Global / Local Points formula becomes:
    (t * ln(b)) / 1000
    t = Total EXP
    b = Battle Count
  23. billabob's post in Achievement system reopen was marked as the answer
    We don't know. It's planned to come back... some day. Some avatars like Farfetch'd are saved for achievement prizes so it's been pretty planned out but it's anyone's guess when that will actually translate to a feature. It was years before saved teams got added and currently the game is receiving a handful of updates per year (2021 had 1 update, and 2022 had 3 in a very short time for some reason): https://www.pokemon-vortex.com/changelog
  24. billabob's post in Meltan candy was marked as the answer
    You'll have to make some money from sidequests/immunes if you can't do quiz and want to buy meltan candies. They go for about 450k each, last I checked.

    Alternatively you could just buy a Melmetal, they go for about 10M each (compared to 20M for the candies)
  25. billabob's post in odds of getting legendary? was marked as the answer
    The rates are not public. Make sure you have the right badges or you won't see any Legendaries at all.

    It takes about an hour on average to find a legendary but of course it can vary wildly. You could just be unlucky
