You earn Seasonal points by catching Pokémon you haven't caught yet during that season, and earning EXP in battles during that month. If you are in the Top 100 of the Seasonal rankings at the end of the month, you will earn 1 VC, which is the currency you're referring to. The Top 4 gain more VC.
