Significance of Dark and Shadow?

Question

I know that each variant is special in some way:

Normal - Normal

Dark - ???

Metallic - Less damage done to you

Mystic - Opponents get scared and can't attack

Shadow - ???

Shiny - 100 extra HP

So what's so special about Dark and Shadow variants?
