I'm not too familiar with Pokemon. What type of team is best to have before I unlock legendaries?

Here is my current team: 

I'm doing pretty well with it so far, but some of the gym battles are a bit hard. Would the only thing I can do to improve my team be getting shiny/dark/metallic counterparts of what I already have or are there some other Pokemon with which I should replace my current ones?

Honestly I like to have a wide range of types to give good coverage, for example my team: Shiny Magnezone: electric/steel, Shiny Yanmega: bug/flying, shiny Gardevoir Mega: fairy/psychic, shiny Blaziken Mega: fire/fighting, shiny Crawdaunt: water/dark and shiny Serperior: grass  something like this will give you a good variety of types for your team

2 to 3 Sableye/Sableye Mega with punishment move is enough to beat 95% of gym leaders. For remaining, use respective immune or super/ultra effective pokemons.

Which types of attacks are worth investing in?

I can't find where to buy attacks and Pokemon. Were those functions removed from the game or am I blind?
