They help you get on the Top Trainers list, they help you get more points, and they also look nice on pokemon! Your chances to find legends are not affected at all by your total exp! Cheers mate! With experience you go up in ranks of top trainer and top pokemon leggy chances remains the same no matter how much exproence you have.
