1. Innate immunity refers to nonspecific defense mechanisms that come into play immediately or within hours of an antigen's appearance in the body. These mechanisms include physical barriers such as skin, chemicals in the blood, and immune system cells that attack foreign cells in the body.

1The innate immune system, also known as the non-specific immune system or in-born immunity system, is an important subsystem of the overall immune system that comprises the cells and mechanisms that defend the host from infection by other organisms. The cells of the innate system recognize and respond to pathogens in a generic way, but, unlike the adaptive immune system, the system does not confer long-lasting or protective immunity to the host.Innate immune systems provide immediate defense against infection, and are found in all classes of plant and animal life

1. Innate immunity refers to nonspecific defense mechanisms that come into play immediately or within hours of an antigen's appearance in the body. This means the antigen doesnt go through recognition and proscessing thus making it first line defense.

Innate (natural) immunity is so named because it is present at birth and does not have to be learned through exposure to an invader. It thus provides an immediate response to foreign invaders. However, its components treat all foreign invaders in much the same way. They recognize only a limited number of identifying substances (antigens) on foreign invaders.

Immunity possessed by a group (as a species or race) that is present in an individual at birth prior to exposure to a pathogen or antigen and that includes components (as intact skin, salivary enzymes, neutrophils, natural killer cells, and complement) which provide an initial response against infection—called also natural immunity

1. What is innate immunity ?

-The innate immune system, also known as the non-specific immune system or in-born immunity system,[1] is an important subsystem of the overall immune system that comprises the cells and mechanisms that defend the host from infection by other organisms. The cells of the innate system recognize and respond to pathogens in a generic way, but, unlike the adaptive immune system, the system does not confer long-lasting or protective immunity to the host.[2]Innate immune systems provide immediate defense against infection, and are found in all classes of plant and animallife.

The innate immune system is an evolutionarily older defense strategy, and is the dominant immune system found inplants, fungi, insects, and primitive multicellular organisms.[3]

The major functions of the vertebrate innate immune system include:

  • Recruiting immune cells to sites of infection, through the production of chemical factors, including specialized chemical mediators, called cytokines
  • Activation of the complement cascade to identify bacteria, activate cells, and promote clearance of antibody complexes or dead cells
  • Identification and removal of foreign substances present in organs, tissues, blood and lymph, by specialized white blood cells
  • Activation of the adaptive immune system through a process known as antigen presentation
  • Acting as a physical and chemical barrier to infectious agents.

lol it looks like everyone copied and pasted the definition of innate immunity... same for the olympic question.

i haven´t even read it lol

1. you didn't bother to fix the formating from whatever website you copy-pasted these answers from

2. on the second one you didn't need all that other stuff, just the part that says there are 42 disciplines lol
