Delayed Live Battles

Recommended Posts

Everyone wants live battles.

A system of live battles that may be good for live battles, even when one user is offline, is delayed live battles.

It works like this:

User1 challenges User2. User2 is not online at the time. By the time User2 accepts, User1 is offline.

User2 is still able to battle, however- he selects his attack. User1 is not online to select his attack, so nothing happens.

User1 comes online just as User2 logs off. He selects his attack, and then the attacks actually happen. User1 selects his attack to use on the next turn. User2 comes online again just as he does this and selects his attack, and the turn commences.

Now that both users are online, nothing is delayed anymore and the live battle proceeds as a normal live battle would.

Live Battles are useless. You can always One-Hit KO your opponent since there is no IV/EV concept. Every Pokemon has 400 HP. Makes no sense for the developers to work on a useless feature.

None of this is true. Any Shiny/Metallic Fire-resistant Pokemon can be OHKO'd no more than 6.25% of the time assuming equal levels. In the official Game Freak-developed games, base stats have much more bearing on attack outcomes than "the IV/EV concept", which provides fractional boosts. If a reduction of damage-to-HP ratios were necessary, it could be done completely independently of "the IV/EV concept" or even base stats by simply adjusting the damage multiplier (or the HP multiplier, as our Shiny Pokemon can in fact have up to 500 HP).

Even as the game is now, Live Battles would be every bit as useful and fun as the enthusiasm to see how they'd play out and experiment with what dynamics exist for a competitive edge and/or fun. If optimal competitive play isn't optimally fun (as it seldom is in any game), Vortex provides plenty of room for self-imposed handicaps.

For a player as seasoned as yourself to suggest that Live Battles would be "useless" based on the reasons you've provided is disappointing and you should know better. Crater's battle system was every bit as flawed as Vortex's and had Live Battles that were plenty useful to those that enjoyed them, and Vortex's battle system is a work in progress. I suspect the real reason Live Battles haven't been integrated in Vortex already is due to server limitations/other technical restraints. The feature was in fact planned for *v2*.

Well, I guess that's a good point. Honestly, I had agreed with Zeus up until I read this, because I never really cared about live battles, I just knew a bunch of people did so I suggested a good system for it.

With a good move set and a good mix of variants, it is really easy to OHKO other Pokemon IMO.
Shiny Kyogre vs Shiny Regirock... Shiny Kyogre uses Hydro Pump... Shiny Regirock fainted. This is what happens. There is no speed stat which makes both the Pokemon to attack at the same time and end in a draw probably?
Even though you got some points correct and it would be fun for people but after an overall look it will become just like the WONDER TRADE feature. Do you remember how people enjoyed the Wonder Trading system when it was first released and how many people you see wonder trading now? Hardly 5-6 people at a time maybe?

Zeus, you bring up a good point about Wonder Trade... until you realize that there are still people using it. Also, Wonder Trade was released around the time of the Vivillon Event, wasn't it? Wouldn't that explain why so many people used it at first? Also @Polaris is right, Crater had live battles with the same battle system.

Again, I don't really care if this gets implemented or not, but your reasons why it shouldn't be implemented don't make as much sense.

I think live battles should be fun and will make the game a lot more interesting.

but I think some rules should be made so

but the problem may be there that user 2 has stopped playing the game.

so maybe it can be online or recently online members only?

or like in some games, you can give a challenge, and search for someone to battle with, and if someone else is also searching, whose team is about the same strength as yours can be paired up with you.

there might not be such a member so there may be a rule that, like you can have max 2 legendary, 1 event/ultra beast, and the others normal. so in this system it will be a lot easier to find an opponent.

anyway, I like the idea.

I hope you like my ideas.
