[How works the "finding pokemons"]

 and is htere only about 25 pokemons per map?, i was looking for fire pokemons but i just found 25-30 kind of pokemons and no more... is that normal? i mean i know maybe charmander could be rare but...torchik...cyndaquil... no basic pokemons?, and the others...? so i must ocnisder that's "normal" here?

I just started and picked picked pichu...but in the maps i couldnt find charmander, squirtle or even bulbasour, idk how this works, some1 explain me plz or tell me how this works...i though bit was like other games like pokemons crater or similars
