General Dex Completion Tracking Tool

Hello, everyone! I'm YaziR, and I'm excited to present my latest fun project. But before I dive into it, let me give you a quick overview of my previous posts:

Introduction

 

Now, let's talk about my new project. In our game, we have an excellent Pokédex that helps us keep track of our Pokémon. However, I encountered some challenges while trying to complete my Pokédex. The built-in Pokédex lacks a route-wise tracking feature, and I also found it difficult to keep tabs on the Pokémon I needed to catch for evolutions.

For instance, when I explore Route 10, I encounter Burmy (Plant). To evolve Burmy (Plant) into Wormadam (Plant), I need to catch a female Burmy (Plant), while to evolve it into Mothim, I need to catch a male Burmy (Plant). To complete the Burmy (Plant) set, I have to catch one male and one female Burmy (Plant) of each variant. Then, I move on to Route 7 for more hunting, where I find Burmy (Sand). In this case, I don't need to catch male Burmy (Sand) because male Burmy (Plant, Sand, and Steel) evolves into Mothim, while the female evolves into the respective Wormadam. All I require from Route 7 to complete my Pokédex is a female Burmy (Sand) and either a male or female Burmy (Sand) for the Burmy (Sand) set.

It might sound a bit complicated, right? To simplify this process, I've created a centralized tracking system in a Google Sheet. I've invested a significant amount of time and effort into this sheet to map each individual Pokémon to its spawning route. This allows me to create an efficient tracking tool. Here are some of the advantages of using this tool:

 

• The tool provides guidance on what to catch from each route.
• It helps you keep track of the number of Pokémon you need to complete your evolution sets.
• The color coding and status column assist you in staying organized.
• The tool includes route-wise listings of Pokémon, including Alolan, Galarian, Hisuian, Legendary, and Ultra Beasts. These categories help you track the completion of those Pokémon individually.
• The tool is future-proof, allowing you to add more routes and Pokémon as the game evolves.

Prep

• First, click the link to open the Google Sheet. It's a view-only sheet, so you won't be able to edit it directly. Next, click on "File" and select "Make a Copy." This will create a copy of the sheet in your Google Drive, which you can edit.

 

 

• The sheet consists of two tabs: "Dex Entry" and "Database." Please DO NOT MODIFY the "Database" tab. All your work will be done in the "Dex Entry" tab

 

Steps

To get started, follow these steps:

• Click the dropdown menu in cell B1 and choose the route you are currently hunting in. For example, if you're hunting in Route 9, select "Route 9."

 

 

 

• After selecting the route, click on the filter icon in cell A1 and then click "OK." This step is crucial. If you skip this step and do not apply the filter, the sheet won't display the Pokémon from the selected route.

 

 

• Now, you're ready to start hunting. Whenever you catch a Pokémon, add "1" to the corresponding cell. For example, if you encounter and catch a shiny Munchlax while exploring, enter "1" in the respective cell. Continue this process as you hunt.

 

 

• For instance, if you find another shiny Munchlax later, add "1" to the previous count and update the cell. So, in this case, you should enter "2" in the cell.

 

 

• When you've caught three shiny Munchlaxes, the cell will turn green, indicating that you've collected all the shiny Munchlaxes required for their evolutions.

 

 

• As you accumulate three Munchlaxes of all variants, you'll notice the name's color changing from red to green, and the status of that Pokémon will change from "Not Done" to "Done."

 

 

• As you keep hunting and catching Pokémon, fill out this information in parallel. Over time, you'll see your sheet gradually filling up and tracking your progress effectively.

 

• For those who have already started their Pokémon catching journey, you may need to manually enter the counts of the Pokémon you already have in your Pokédex. This initial manual input is a one-time task, and as you continue to use this tool, you'll find that it becomes less necessary over time.

Vital Information
This sheet is centralized, meaning that each Pokémon appears only once. Some Pokémon may spawn in multiple routes. For example, Magikarp is often found in various water maps. If you've completed the Magikarp set while you were in Route 7, when you filter the Pokémon for Route 8, you'll notice that the Magikarp set is marked as completed. This helps you focus on catching only the Pokémon you still need.

You can also adjust the number of Pokémon you need in column E. I haven't included the Pokémon needed for Gigantamax forms. For example, I've only entered 3 Munchlaxes, but if you need 4 for a Gigantamax form, you can change the "3" to "4" as required.

The dropdown menu in cell B2 offers a variety of filtering options. If you filter using "###," you can see all the Pokémon entries. You can also use this sheet to locate where a particular Pokémon is spawning. To do this:

 

• Filter for all Pokémon using "###" in the filter code.
• Press "Ctrl + F" to open the search bar.
• Search for the Pokémon you're interested in (e.g., "Onix").
• Check the spawning route for that Pokémon in column A.

 

Finally, you also have the flexibility to sort this form in any way that suits your needs. Here's how to do it:

 

• Right-click on the column header that you want to sort.

 

• Choose "Sort A to Z" to sort in ascending order or "Sort Z to A" to sort in descending order.

 

The most useful sorting options often involve sorting Pokémon entries by their status (Column L) or by their location (Column C).

 

Understanding the Terms

 

In Column D, you'll find information about the spawning locations, and it may contain some cryptic words. Here's an explanation of these terms:

 

"Day": The Pokémon spawns exclusively during the daytime.

"Night": The Pokémon spawns only during nighttime.

"All time": The Pokémon can be found at any time, regardless of day or night.

For more complex descriptions, such as "NewHvn, 12, Citadl - C; 3, 21 - D; 8 - N" (for Pidgey)," it means:

In New Haven, Route 12, and Vortex Citadel, Pidgey is commonly found (both day and night).

On Route 21, it's available during the day only.

On Route 8, Pidgey appears at night only.

 

 

This tool may be a boon for some people, while others may not find it as useful. I originally created this tool for my personal use and have been using it to track my progress for over a year.

This is incredible and exactly what i've wanted to have for so long! I've been on the fence about making my own document for personal use since completing my dex is what i enjoy most about the game, but this is far better than anything i could have come up with. Thank you so much for this! 

EDIT:
I do have a question though after using it for a bit and getting used to it! How do you keep track of your scatterbug/spewpa/vivillon since you need all of the different forms?

Hai. I'm glad that the tool is useful for you. As you may see, I've mentioned that you need 19 vivillons to complete dex. The tool may help you in tracking the Pokemons you need to complete the dex. It does not help you with tracking the evolutions. You should find 19 people with different evolution forms to help you evolve the vivillons.
