Is there like any tricks to happiness training or do i just need to hop around wild battles and actually learn how to be patient

that takes longer cause you have to fight 6 level 100s for the same amount of happiness as fighting one wild pokemon...

Gym Leader Zephyr in the Johto region is a good choice. You can train 2 pokemons at the same time. Ant it's weak. It takes around 30 minutes for me get 2 pokemons to 3 happiness. If you're lucky some are even reaches max happiness.
