Answered I'm on the Pursuit of Happiness

So as my profile says, I'm extremely new to this game. While it's been pretty easy to pick up, I do have one question.

 

So I caught this 

and after recovering from my joy-induced seizure, I did some looking around and came across that I will need to raise it to Lvl 3 happiness to be able to evolve it. My question is, how does happiness work in this game? I know that in the regular games its just a matter of battling a lot with said pokemon, but this game seems to make processes like leveling up easier and quicker to do. Is this the same with happiness? or does this take a long time to grow (I apparently have no happiness and i have to get to lvl 3.)?

Basically all you have to do is go to a map,and battle every wild pokemon you see. You should have it level 3 hearts in like 2 hours max if you do it non stop.

You can also ask people to train it for you, though that usually comes with a price (mostly legendaries).

It's the same with happiness and yes, it does take a long time to grow. I have experience with it because, I raised a happiny, pichu, and buneary to their max hearts. A lot of battling in the wild. Also, fighting gyms/random people work, too.
