You're not allowed to ask for upvotes, reputation or anything like that.

You get it if people appreciate what you do.

It's not a competition. It's a way to show you helped or did/said something people liked.
That and if you win by asking it means very little. You didn't really 'win' at that point.

Hm that makes sense. It does feel good to be appreciated though.
